Ghin Ghin Road

Travel just a few kilometres from Yea along Ghin Ghin Road to experience superb views of beautiful surrounding mountain terrain and farmland. A picnic spot on the Goulburn River is a pleasant stop with the chance to fish or view platypus that frequent the area.

Road cuttings house fossil remains, particularly 'long leaves', that have left their impressions in the rocks. Continue on to the stone circle - similar to 'Stonehenge' - a monument to early pioneers and families of the area. The view south from Jacks Creek is majestic and well worth a photograph. At Caveat, continue past the wineries to the Catholic Church with beautiful stained glass windows and a stone crypt in the garden.

Then travel through delightful granite country to the 'Ruffy Boathole', a delightful spot for a cuppa beside the picturesque Hughes Creek with its inviting swimming hole. Return to Yea via Caveat and its bush land reserve, finally winding your way back down the mountain through magnificent forests of mountain ash, interspersed with huge granite boulders, ferns and crystal clear streams.

Lake Eildon Touring Drive

Forget the highway and take a long drive from Eildon to Mansfield along the lake. Starting from the Eildon township, travel out of town along the Goulburn Valley Highway to Jamieson Road, just near the Eildon Golf Club.

You can take a break in the charming town of Jamieson before travelling on to Mansfield. The drive offers plenty of opportunities to turn off the road to the water's edge for a spot of fishing or picnic lunch. The trip takes around three hours return and is suitable for most vehicles though it includes 14km of unmade road plus several windy sections.

Lady Talbot Forest Drive

The Lady Talbot Forest Drive, a short scenic drive beside the Taggerty River, was named after the wife of Sir Reginald Talbot, Governor of Victoria from 1903-1908.

Discover raging waterfalls that cascade over enormous granite boulders, bubbling creeks, beautiful tree fern gullies under tall eucalypts, and finally enter a magical ancient rainforest that looks much as it has for many millions of years.

From Marysville travel 500 metres along the Woods Point Road and turn left into Lady Talbot Drive. You will pass through 11km of the Marysville State Forest, which includes features such as the Wishing Well, Taggerty River Picnic Area and Athols Abbey Camping Area before you enter the National Park.
